Compliance Scenario 2 Reply to Martina: For this week’s discussion, we evaluate the importance of auditing and monitoring. In order to maintain compliance, audits are done to help facilitate that. Audits are ongoing evaluations done in facilities and organizations to ensure that policies are being followed to test its overall effectiveness. These audits help catch potential issues sooner before they become a legal matter. There are two different audits – internal and external. An internal audit is “…performed by members of the organization or practice” (Verhovshek, 2018). While an external audit is typically “…performed by an individual or group that is not a part of the organization or the practice” (Verhovshek, 2018). Internal audits usually include a specific audit team that helps break down an organization into sections to further evaluate risk. Internal audits usually happen throughout the year. On the other hand, because external audits are performed from an individual/group outside of the organization, there are different agencies that conduct external audits. In contrast to internal audits being done throughout the year, external audits are done annually. Similarly, external audits are more objective because they are from an outside source. The audit’s results would not be as specific in contrast to an internal audit. References Moseley, G. B. (2015). Managing legal compliance in the health care industry. 2 Priscilla: In healthcare, auditing is important in order to keep the organization in compliance with laws and regulations. Audits are conducted in order to find out if there is a violation of law that has happened or is likely going to happen soon (Moseley, 2015). Also, having an audit can help to improve the quality of care for patients. There are two types of audits, which are internal and external audits. When it comes to an internal audit, it is carried out by a department within the organization and is required throughout the year. Internal audits “examine, analyze and report the issues related to business practices, risks, and the viability of policies to solve those issues” (Wright, 2020). The purpose of internal audits are to look at the components of workflow and the risks involved in the organization in order for improvements to be made. Also, for internal auditors, they have the responsibility to answer or report to management. On the other hand, external audit is carried out by someone outside the organization and is required once a year. External audits “carefully analyze, assess, and verify the financial statements” (Wright, 2020). The purpose of an external audit is to check for accuracy of the financial statements. For external auditors, they have the responsibility to answer or report to stakeholders or the owners of the organization. Furthermore, even though internal and external audits have their own differences, they both deliver the same end, which is to ensure that the organization is in compliance with laws, regulations, and standards.
