lasting for several seconds. When this happens, I wake up with extreme anxiety, sometimes kicking, and always yelling out, “No, no, no…!!!” I am now use to my existence and the idea of death – of one day not existing, and losing everything including the people who I love and cherish the most, and all that I have accomplished and have yet to accomplished, gives me extreme anxiety. This also makes me think that mortality is rather unfair – that we only briefly exist and then we no longer exist. I am not religious, but I sure hope that there is an afterlife of some sort. This realization of mortality reminds me to cherish life, to prioritize what’s important in life, and to start planning my legacy. It has made me realize that what is important are: 1) the well-being of the lives we leave behind and 2) the well-being of the world that we leave behind. I cannot imagine anything else being as relevant as these.
