HAIs are considered as the infections acquired by patients during their treatment process involving surgical or medical conditions. The infections have cost the United States’ healthcare systems a lot of money that is estimated to be billions of dollars every year. These costs are associated with the treatment of such infections and catering for the deaths that result from them since it has caused several deaths. According to the information obtained from the Center for Disease Control and Protection (CDC), a minimum of one patient is identified out of every 25 patients in the hospital who have healthcare-acquired infections. According to the study that was conducted in the year 2013, healthcare-acquired infections are accompanied by a high financial price that cost about $9.8 billion every year (Hoarle, 2015). Based on the losses accompanied by healthcare-acquired infections, management policy and procedure aimed at minimizing the transmission of such diseases is therefore discussed. In this case, Clostridium Difficile Infection (CDI) is one of the HAIs that are commonly contracted in the United States mainly in Johns Hopkins Hospital.Clostridium Difficile is a bacterial infection associated with symptoms ranging from minor diarrhea to colon inflammation that is considered to be a life-threatening condition. Sometimes it is usually known as C. difficile. It is spread through indirect or direct contact. The infection is caused by Clostridium Difficile bacterium most affects old adults in healthcare facilities such as hospitals and long-term healthcare facilities. The infection occurs as a result of antibiotic medication use. According to studies, there are minimum increasing rates of the Clostridium Difficile illness among young and healthy people with no antibiotic use history or healthcare facility exposure among the traditional people. In every year, almost half a million people acquire this infection in the United States, and this has become a severe, frequent, complicated issue to reduce. The symptoms that are mostly experienced during mild to moderate stage of infection include mild tenderness and abdominal cramping as well as watery diarrhea several times a day. The signs and symptoms of the infection appear five days to ten days upon the start of the antibiotics course, though they may appear as early as the first day up to about two months after infection. Some individuals may have the Clostridium Difficile bacterium in their intestines though may not be sick, but they can transmit the infection to other people. If the infection becomes severe, the victim may be dehydrated and may even be hospitalized in a healthcare facility. The infection causes the intestines to be inflamed, and in some cases, raw tissue patches are formed in the colon that produces pus or bleeds (Sanders, 2016). Other symptoms include pus or blood in the stool, kidney failure, weight loss and swollen abdomen among other symptoms. In controlling the spread of Clostridium Difficile, the various staff has specific roles to play. The staff includes senior charge nurses, clinical infection control teams, and health protection team among others. Symptomatic patients infected by the bacterium pass spores through their stool at a high rate into the environment. These patients are regarded as the primary sources of healthcare environmental contamination. sk of contamination. Hands of healthcare providers may also be at a high risk of being contaminated as well. Due to the seriousness and the characteristics displayed by the bacterium, optimal hygiene is necessary to reduce the spread of the bacterium to the environment or other patients. Hand rubs, which are alcohol based, are considered ineffective for the removal of Clostridium difficile spores from surfaces or hands, and therefore, extra washing of hands by use of liquid soap is recommended for the prevention of spores spread (Bates & Escobar, 2014). Besides, careful restriction of colonized antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, and cephalosporins can be used to reduce the infection cases and generally minimize antibiotic resistance. The roles played by these professionals are listed below. These professions are supposed to ensure that a safe system is in place and can enhance various practices. Every staff has to follow “Standard Infection Control Precautions every time and adhere to all control measures of infections. They should ensure that Clostridium Difficile plans are kept in place and adhered to appropriately. Besides, the professionals should ensure that other staff can challenge poor health practices. They should also ensure that new equipment is always clean and are used in the right manner and conditions. The clinical staff is supposed to understand that the Clostridium Difficile causes significant harm to patients and it is a diagnosis of its own kind. The staff should be aware of the main risk factors associated with the infection. In case a patient has diarrhea, the staff should ensure that they obtain a stool specimen immediately. Upon realization that the disease infects an individual patient, he or she should be isolated. Personnel who is authorized in prescribing antimicrobial agents need to adhere to the policy of local antimicrobial prescription. They should be contributing to the best practices of antimicrobial prescription through the challenge of major deviations away from the guidelines. This team is required to support the application of “Standard Infection Control Precautions as well as particular control measures of the infections such as contact precautions for every staff. The team should also support mandatory surveillance program involving Clostridium Difficile infection. They are even supposed to be informing the management whenever they realize that there is an increase in cases number of outbreaks regarding Clostridium difficile infection taking place in wards. Besides, they should take part in the implementation of a Clostridium Difficile infection action plan and policy. This team should assist and support the ICT with a mandatory program involving Clostridium Difficile infection. They are also supposed to give advice concerning the control of the infection and educate people in the community facilities when needed. They should also be responsible for consultations arising in microbiology and have access to antimicrobial prescribing policy. Therefore, management policies and procedures regarding Clostridium Difficile infection are necessary for every healthcare facility. The infections have affected several people in the United States and control measures are supposed to be practiced to reduce its spread. Through the support of the healthcare professional, the policy and procedure involving the infection can be achieved.Answer Preview…………….Healthcare-Acquired Infections (HAIs) are among the significant health risk issues that are associated with the current health facilities.
