Describing Sampling, Significance, and Potential ErrorThe article chosen for review is “Mobile Technology for Vegetable Consumption:
A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study for Overweight Adults”.  This article studied
the use of mobile apps to help increase vegetable consumption of overweigh
adults.
Random sampling and random assignments are considered an unbiased
approach to select participants and increase the validity of the research.
(Multimedia presentation, 2018).  The method used in this study was done by
choosing 17 overweight 42-year-old adults with a BMI of 32 who were
randomized to use a new, theoretical mobile app which was to help support
consumption of vegetables (Mummah, Mathur, King, Gardner and Sutton, 2016).
The results of the study appear bias since they chose a specific group of only 42
years old adults to participate in the study.  Furthermore, all participates had the
same BMI of 32. The sample size should have been chosen randomly from the
parent weight loss trial which included patients who were age 18-50. This may
have yielded a more diverse population of participants.  The results of the study
show only the reaction to 42-year-olds with a BMI of 32. It does not represent the
overweight population of 18-50-year old adults who participated in the parent
study.   The study did use random assignments to a controlled group and
intervention group. The control group is group that did not use the mobile app
during the experiment.
Per Statistics How To (2018), Type I error is related to incorrectly rejecting the
null hypotheses when it is correct.  A Type II error is a failure to reject the null
hypothesis

when the null hypothesis is false. An example of the Type I error
identified by Statistics How To (2018), was related to scientists believing the
Earth was in the center of the universe, when this hypothesis has been proven to
be incorrect.  As a result, this hypothesis is null since the earth is not at the
center of the universe.  Conversely, a Type II error or some alternative
hypotheses would be that the Earth is in the center of the universe which is a
failure to reject the null hypothesis.  In the article, there is a potential of both
types of errors since there was no true sampling of participants.Confidence interval tells one how confident the researcher should be with results
of a survey and that the expectation would be the same if the survey were given
to the entire population (Statistics How To, 2018).  This study did report a 95%
confidence interval.  However, the study did not use a representation of all obese
population by choosing only 42-year-old with a BMI of 32.

While the intention of Mummah, Mathur, King, Gardner, and Sutton (2016) might be the need to restrict the population to this particular group of the population, the phenomenon that was……………APA 311 words
