Your final project for this course is to research a testimony of sexual violence. The sexual violence can be of any form (it includes harassment). You might locate a testimony in a student newspaper, in an anonymous blog post, etc, as possible ideas. Testimonies are in most cases unverified, so the usual considerations about source and validity shift in these cases.Your job is to research and restore the testimony. By research I do not mean attempt to judge whether or not the testimony is ‘true’. Instead, in this case to research the testimony is to track what you can learn about: what took place, how was it received, were there others, was it part of a larger case or campaign, etc. Be attentive to the ethics of the kinds of questions you ask and the implications of what you uncover (revealing the identity of someone who wants to remain anonymous, for ever, is likely not the most ethical approach). By restore I mean: take seriously the knowledge offered in your testimony. Amplify this knowledge, take it seriously, and use it to learn about and ask questions of how sexual violence is perpetuated and reproduced.Connect this researc

h and what you learn about the testimony to larger analytic frames in the class. For instance, we have covered and will cover topics such as: how reports are discounted, how the reports of those who are most marginalized are also marginalized, how concern can often center around the one who is reported to have committed the violation, how adjudication processes may in fact work to discount reports, title IV processes on university campuses, etc. Make substantive reference to a minimum of 3 materials from this class in your analysis and restoration of your testimony. What to hand in:Your final project is split into two components:a) A short presentation on your work, scheduled for week 10. Presentations will be 5-10 minutes, and you can select synchronous or asynchronous options (20%)b) Your research product, also due in week 10. This could be a traditional academic paper (5-7 pages UG), or it could take creative form: a podcast, a comic, a slideshow, a series of memes and videos, etc. Think about how you would most like to communicate your research analysis, and which form is most useful for you and your goals with the project.
